$1000 in Food Gift Cards to help staff at House of Friendship

House of Friendship is on the brink of opening a newly renovated shelter in Kitchener that will house 100 men. It’s been an exhausting journey to get there and the staff, although excited, are also feeling stretched thin and weary. This gift will encourage them and their families.

ShelterCare is unique in providing primary health care and addiction supports right on-site at a shelter. For the past couple of years, this service has been provided in three other hotels, one after another, as the men had to leave and the staff had to uproot their services and find a new place. This time, House of Friendship has bought and renovated the facility to offer a dignified, more settled location. It’s a big risk putting that level of investment on the line for a population that will likely be very hard on it, but as one of their Board members told me, “The risk of not doing it is far higher.”
